Should i use hdmi or dvi for gaming

Beyond you're going to want to go with DisplayPort. QwerkyPengwen Splendid Ambassador. Jan 16, 4, 25, Using DVI will not produce the best color and bit depth levels that the other two will. So for a decent monitor at p you can use whichever you like especially at 60Hz. If you are going for a really nice panel that is capable of displaying nicer everything at p then go with HDMI or Display Port.

If you are going for p or better at hz then go Display Port. Simply has a good point. If you're only using the rig for gaming, you'll never notice the color differences.

So really, the first question is what you want in a monitor, then what your budget for a monitor is, and then figuring out the monitor. Then let me be even more clear, you keep saying that P Hz gaming monitors are compatible with all three types of connections. That isn't the case.

Display-port will work. DVI-D may work. Typically HDMI will not work. Other high end monitors are more the less the same, but it is dependent upon the particular monitor. But the common cable that does work is Display-port. As I said way back at the beginning of this thread, I have a P Hz monitor. It takes a Display-port cable. HDMI specifically doesn't work. That I believe is what the OP was asking. All three connection types can do p at hz, but beyond that resolution and frequency you'd want go with Displayport.

I never said anything about all hz monitors taking all three types of connectors. I said the actual output of the video card and the inputs the monitor had would determine what kind of cable would need to be used. And it's just fantastic that your P hz monitor only takes Displayport. But it's not the only one on the market and other monitors may take other inputs. But really that's that's neither here nor there. At higher configurations, the DVI port becomes unviable. All in all, when it pours down to choosing the right type of cable, you should consider the resolution and the refresh rate.

In some cases the video driver would be responsible for the sound signal, rather than the audio driver. You might need to update your drivers to make it work.

The video signal is basically the same as HDMI, just without the audio.
