Her body was found two weeks later in Gold Beach, Ore. Virginia Mochel, 34, of West Sacramento, was kidnapped on July 17, from the parking lot of a bar where she worked.

The couple told the kids that they could make some money by delivering leaflets, then go with them to their van to get the flyers. Charlene parked their vehicle in Humboldt Sink, which is an isolated area where Gerald pulled Sandra out of the can while holding a shovel. He took her to a dry creek bed and hit her from behind with his shovel causing a loud splat noise.
Charlene recalls hearing the hit sounding like "a loud splat like a flat rock hitting the mud, and the girl sank to her knees and slowly toppled over on her face. The teenagers were considered to be runaways for four years. Apple Bistro and Danette's Brick Oven Pub had their health permits revoked last year but refused to close. A cease and desist letter was sent on October 21 stating that the county would be seeking all applicable damages, fines and that a closure order if the restaurants stayed open.
