Which is better hornby and bachmann

I always believe that hornbys thomas range is far superior in build and running qualities. Quantanties are my issues. Only a limited number of engines in 30 years of production. Bachmann have at least 15 engines and are introducing the narrow gauge engines starting with skarloey. I think you must be referring to products only available outside the UK.

Posted at Fri 27 Feb It's funny how tribal people are, I have mainly Hornby, which I personally prefer overall, but have "fleshed out" my collection with the other company.

I always take the view that the more the merrier in our hobby even if it means duplication. True thomas by bachmann is only avaliable from the us. And true bachmann uk do sell the thomas large scale only here. I am merely asking for opinions. Posted at Mon 9 Mar I have the Bachmann US models.

Great models that put Hornbys to shame. Designed to be sold in the likes of Walmart etc ,quite why you cant buy Thomas models by Hornby in Tescos , Asda fair boggles the mind.. Shouldnt take Bachmann to make them up their game. Before christmas my dad bought my little boy a Marklin my world set. What a way to kick off with model railways. The standard marklin c track , battery operated , full use of remote control technology with the headlights ,sounds etc. If i hadnt already had a large 00 gauge set up then id have happily gone down the Marklin path as it just leads beautifuly from the basic my world starter sets into the full Marklin range.

Again revenue is being lost from a sector thats almost discarded from the outset. Posted at Sun 31 May Re the Bachman Emily, I have one but it continually derails going around 1st radius curves.

Additionally, following the Hornby annonceemnt, I went on to the site and found that they are bringing back Thomas, James, Percy, Edward, Gordon and Henry. Went onto another site which sells Bachman and there is a large range available now, including Spencer, Toiby, Bill a ]nd Ben etc etc.

Is Hornby going to Bring out these others or are they lilmiting the reissued to the original 6? If so, they are missing out!!!! Posted at Tue 22 Sep Not a comparison of models, but I would like to share my experience of the two companies. My son is Autistic and loves his Thomas trains, but the range of Bachmann is so much greater. It lasted about two months before coming to a halt.

I contacted Bachmann Europe in the hope that it would be covered by a warranty. I have been told that not only is there no warranty because I bought it from abroad, but there are not willing to provide any servicing or repair for the train even if I were to pay full price. Hornby promptly sent me a replacement for the part free of charge. You will all have a view about the respective models, but in terms of customer support in my view it's no contest. Posted at Thu 1 Oct At least Bachmann are consistent with their quality and seem to have a clear idea of their target market.

Quite simply, more or less, you know what you're going to get. Hornby are schizophrenic as they're trying to be all things to all men. Level of detail varies enormously from item to item.

I'm not just talking about the difference between their Railroad range and their main range either. Even within each range, there are enormous differences at similar price points. Yes, Design Clever which proved quickly to be unclever and has been abandoned. Journeyman said:. I think the Railroad range is a good concept, as many of the models in it are pretty decent for the price and helpful if you want to build up a decent-sized fleet on a budget, but even within that, there's good models and terrible ones.

Bachmann always seemed to get a rough ride over their 'delays', even after they explained that when they announced something new it was at the start of development, not most of the way through it like Hornby were doing.

I always preferred that way myself as it meant I wasn't buying soon to be outdated models or starting a kit that would soon have an rtr equivalent. FrodshamJnct Established Member. Its weird how Dapol can get the 68 so right if you ignore the livery blunder on the first batch of DRS ones and yet blunder so badly with the 73 troublesome pick ups and poor liveries - wrong shades, lettering wrongly proportioned.

The Western is an irritant, fine providing the lifting eyes for separate fitting but they could have least designed them to slot into the roof with a fold over tap to secure them to the inside of the roof. In terms of the ones they do supply varnish has been suggested to me as a way of fitting them but its not a strong hold on them and any slightly uncareful handling sees them fall off, so the alternative is to leave them off but then the roof is covered in strange slits.

Both are very good in terms of detailing now At first, bachmann was always my preference due to the smooth running, but now I go with Hornby wherever possible. This is due to my co-co bachmann locos derailing on points when going left or right. The wheel comes out of the rail on the junction and derails. My Hornby models don't.

It's a shame as it restricts my usage. SCHX said:. In terms of modern trains, Hornby tend to make more high-speed trains Would be nice to see more modern trains, could start making wishlist's but RMWeb is for that! Share: Facebook Twitter Share Link. What's the best Hornby or Bachmann A4 Discuss model railway topics and news that do not fit into other sections. What's the best Hornby or Bachmann A4 Post by lenht » Fri May 20, pm Title says it all really, just wondering which is the best before I commit. All comments welcome. Overall the Hornby, main range model. We have chewed it over before, took a little while to find it: viewtopic.

Dapol have announced a 'Black Label' A4 with lights, sound, smoke, and traction that effortlessly lifts four hundred notes from your wallet. Supposed to have arrived last month, still awaited.
