When does lover reborn come out
In fact, his pain is still so intense as to be heart-breaking. He also continues to harbor a death wish, constantly taking huge risks while out in the field fighting, but is trying his best to live for his adoptive son, John Matthew. When No'One, Xhex's mother and the female who had committed suicide with Tohr's own dagger centuries ago, comes back into his life, he gradually begins to feel things that he thought had died along with Wellsie.
Unable to bear the thought of taking sustenance from anyone else, Tohr has been starving himself for blood. When No'One, at Lassiter's prompting, offered to feed Tohr, he not too surprisingly only succeeded in frightening her which he felt terrible about. After that though, he kept a very tight reign on his self-control, and as a result, was very tender and gentle with her. I've always loved the fact that Tohr was a virgin when he married Wellsie and has never been with anyone else.
I think this sweet side of him made him the perfect mate for No'One, especially after all she had been through in her life. They each could understand the loss the other had suffered. I admired that although No'One gave Tohr permission to call up his memories of Wellsie when he was with her, that he always remained present in the moment and fully knew who he was with, and I loved that he wouldn't allow No'One to hide her scarred leg from him and thought her beautiful no matter what.
Tohr was definitely very stubborn about giving No'One his heart though, and after a pivotal moment in the story, he was even downright hurtful toward her. However, once he was able to finally let go of Wellsie, it was an intensely emotional time that brought tears to my eyes more than once.
Ultimately, Tohr was a kind and passionate gentlemale who I think was the perfect person to help No'One through her own fears and self-reproach, and he has definitely earned a spot, not only among my favorite Brothers, but my favorite romance heroes in general. No'One begins the story believing she is only worthy of serving and has a hard time with the idea of being an honored guest at the Brotherhood's mansion.
I really enjoyed watching though as the two of them slowly build a bond between them. No'One really seems to understand Tohr's grief. With good reason, she got angry with him when he treated her rather rudely, but instead of letting it fester, she realized that it was a product of the intense sadness that had made him a different person than the one who had taken such good care of her all those centuries ago. She was very generous in wanting to feed Tohr, thinking it would pay him back in some small way for the kindness he showed her in her previous life.
It was very sweet how No'One subconsciously began to feel pangs of protectiveness and jealously toward Tohr. It was just too cute when she stood up to Vishous and even let out a little growl at him when he questioned who would be feeding Tohr when he was injured. No'One is incredibly loving and patient with Tohr, willing to accept whatever he is able to give her and sometimes being surprised by him offering more than she was expecting. She was very supportive of Tohr through all the pain he suffered and forgiving of his shortcomings.
In the end, she went through a transforming process of her own that, in my opinion, made her a very worthy mate for Tohr. Together Tohr and No'One made a very lovely couple. It was kind of funny how, early on, the pair both vehemently deny any attraction to one another. To my way of thinking, it was definitely a case of them protesting too much, almost like they were trying to convince themselves.
When they finally became intimate for the first time, it was so utterly beautiful, two souls giving freely and trusting one another implicitly. Even though Tohr held back his heart from No'One, their interactions still didn't seem like they were just about the blood and sex. The idea of using her skill sets against a particularly challenging situation in order to extract vengeance is exactly the kind of work she loves. The Brotherhood will let her work on her own with all their resources available to her, but she can't touch Xcor until they have the evidence; unless, of course, she needs to defend herself and then she can do anything necessary to ensure her own safety.
He's completely smitten by her beauty and she's horrified that he's half-dead. He tries to keep her from feeding him because he thinks he's too far gone and unworthy of her presence in the first place. Layla, in turn, is captivated by him and assumes, from her brief encounter with Throe at the clinic, that they're soldiers who fight alongside the Brotherhood. Xhex asks John what changed. He tells her that she was right and tells her how he'd let Qhuinn go out into certain danger because he was the best fit for the job as a heavy hitter.
Xhex is the best fit for the mission since she can go into daylight and use her sympath abilities if need be. John thought it would help heal the rift between them, but Xhex tells him to let her go because she thinks he isn't bonded to her anymore. He tells her she's wrong and he's still bonded to her. Suggesting she handle the assignment wasn't only about them because it was also simply the right thing to do. Although he wants her back, he's not going to dictate the terms and they make progress together.
Tohr's taking care of Layla and hand-feeding her berries, which is when she realizes that she's in love with him. Xhex hasn't found the Bastards yet and she's getting frustrated. Even though she's been going to the mansion multiple times a week, she hasn't been intimate with John because he's holding back until she succeeds in her mission to prove he meant what he'd said to her.
She approaches Assail, who tries to warn her away from Xcor because he's merciless and he doesn't think she can deal with him. John, Layla, and Qhuinn go out and over desserts, Layla tells them that she's fallen for someone and tells them how Throe had summoned her to feed Xcor. Jane has Tohr come in from the field and he realizes right away that Autumn's in her needing; he assumes that he was summoned to service her.
He remembers how Wellsie had fought with him over trying for a child in her last needing, arguing that she wanted a living part of him if he died in the field. Tohr refuses to service Autumn, but Jane tells him it's because Autumn won't take any drugs to knock her out and she's in pain. Jane hopes that he can convince her to change her mind. Autumn continues to refuse and Tohr vows he'll never service her and to prove it, he takes the drugs and knocks himself unconscious.
Qhuinn tells Layla that Xcor had attempted to assassinate Wrath and Qhuinn had been the one to put Xcor in the state he'd been in when she fed him. He explains that they'd had him take her vein to ensure that Throe didn't die on the Brotherhood's watch, which had been before the murder attempt. She faints. She calls in iAm, who's not far away, and he loans them a car to get Layla back to the mansion. Before they leave, Xhex assumes John's going to go bonded male on her again. Instead, he tells her that they'll take care of Layla and Xhex can get back to what she was doing.
Xcor, also being in the vicinity, senses Layla. Although he's enamoured of her, he knows his lifestyle is too violent for her. Layla's scared that she'll be expelled from the Chosen and be left without a home, purpose, or the only family she's ever known. After Autumn's needing is over, Jane thinks Autumn has some issues to work through. Autumn's upset with her for texting Tohr. Tohr's upset with Autumn, thinking that she'd foregone the drugs so he'd feel sorry enough to service her.
When she denies it, Tohr calls her mentally ill for willingly punishing herself not only by going through her needing without drugs but by being with him since she knows he loves someone else. He tells her that she's feeding her martyr complex by relegating herself to the role of a servant and she enjoys being a victim.
She screams at him to leave. He tells her that he's done being used so she can get her fix because their situation isn't healthy for either of them, it's never been healthy and he thinks he shouldn't have let it go on for so long. Lassiter appears to Tohr as he's leaving Autumn and coldcocks him.
He tells Tohr that he's condemned Wellsie for eternity. Tohr lashes out by telling him that he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about and has been talking out his ass when he wasn't rotting his brain with TV.
Lassiter gives him the middle finger, says he quit, and walks away. Layla apologizes to Wrath, who's not angry since he knows she had no idea who Xcor really was since she thought she was legitimately helping an ally of the Brotherhood nor has she looked for him since.
Moreover, she told John and Qhuinn where she'd met with Xcor. Wrath tells her that the Band of Bastards knew she has a big heart and took advantage of that. Phury admits he should have been honest with her about who Throe really was, but he'd hoped to keep her from getting sucked into the war and it never occurred to him that the Bastards would try to use her. Layla vows to tell Wrath and Phury if the Bastards reach out to her again. She even offers to use the blood connection to find Xcor, but they turn her down, not wanting to endanger her.
Triggered by Autumn's, Layla's needing hits and she asks Qhuinn to service her. Since neither of them has any real family, she tells him that they can build their own future. Qhuinn wants someone to love and remembers the vision he'd had of his daughter when he'd nearly died after the honor guard beat him for killing Lash. He agrees to service Layla. John tells Xhex how Throe tricked Layla into feeding Xcor and she'd offered to help track him.
If Xhex enlists Layla's help, she has to keep the Chosen's involvement a secret. More than anything else he's said or done, that convinces Xhex that he's truly accepted her as a fighter and, moreover, to keep a non-combatant female safe. Xhex checks in on Autumn, who asks her for a place to stay and Xhex tells her she can move in with her for as long as she wants. Knowing that something must have happened between Autumn and Tohr, she presses for information, but all she tells Xhex is that he told Autumn what he really thought of her and that bridge is pretty much burned.
Autumn's worried about being a burden on Xhex while staying at her cabin since she doesn't have any income. She also warns Xhex off of Tohr since she'd known what she was getting into.
After being a colossal dick to both Autumn and Lassiter, Tohrment sat in the underground parkade for at least 24 hours thinking about Autumn, Wellsie, and his behaviour. He knows he has to apologize to Autumn and Lassiter. He lets himself drift off to sleep with the intention of dreaming of Wellsie again. She's beginning to disintegrate into the dust that fills her In Between.
Seeing her, he realizes what he has to do. Xhex asks Layla to help her find Xcor in order to find the hideout where the rifle used to shoot Wrath is kept. Even though she knows she can't tell anyone, Layla agrees to help. Tohrment donates all of Wellsie's old clothing and unopened toiletries to Safe Place as well as her pots, pans, and knives. He tells Marissa Wellsie would have hated for anything to go to waste and would have wanted it to go to those in need. He tells Marissa to sell the jewels to fund an expansion since they're in need of more space, which Marissa names after Wellsie.
As they're packing up the house, John asks Tohr what made him decide it was time and Tohr tells him that it was a lot of things.
He's never mentioned Wellsie's predicament to John. He apologizes to Tohr for being angry at him for being with Autumn and he's surprised when Tohr says he's not going to mate her. Tohr tells John that he nuked any chances he ever had with her and John empathizes with him. Since John turns down the offer of the house because he agrees it's time to let go, Tohr's going to put the house on the market.
While doing chores at Xhex's cabin, which is already spic and span, Autumn thinks about what Tohrment had said. Without the distraction and routine of cleaning, she's forced to truly face herself and realize he was right since she'd already assumed the role of maid for her daughter, even though that's not what Xhex wants.
She'd never been commanded by anyone to serve, not the Brotherhood, the Chosen, not even the Scribe Virgin. She had put herself into that role partly because before the kidnapping she'd been a horrid mistress to her doggen and felt superior in her pampered life of leisure. Xhex warns Autumn that Tohr's going to come to see her and tells her how he'd packed up the house.
Autumn doesn't really think that there's anymore to say between her and Tohr. Xhex tells her a little of the problems she'd been having with John and that his actions were what convinced her that he'd changed.
Autumn points out that John loves Xhex, whereas Tohr loves Wellsie and will never love her. In preparation for Wellsie's Fade ceremony, Tohrment gets her cremains, kept in a Tiffany's silver art deco box from the 's that Darius had collected and Fritz found in storage at the mansion.
Tohrment goes to the cabin to apologize. She tells him that after they last spoke, although she was devastated, she didn't punish himself. She had, indeed, fallen in love with him, but she'd done her best to keep that from him because she knew it would hurt him to know he'd allowed another female that close to him.
She had honestly fallen in love with him and wanted to spare him any more pain rather than punishing herself. She truly cares about what happens to Wellsie so she hopes that selling the house and donating Wellsie's things helps release them both. Although he'd come to talk to her about Autumn and not Wellsie, Autumn tells him that their unhealthy cycle is complete.
The first time they met, their relationship had been all about her and her trauma. This time around, it was all about him and his trauma. He's desperate to help Tohr, at first to help himself get out of the trouble he's in with the Maker, but later He's so funny, he's got some great lines in the story I hope he gets a story soon because I want to find out more about him!
Ooooh, they do something that could have far reaching consequences. Oh yeah. Yesss, get away from Saxton! Sadly, not much happens with them in this book, but Oh yeah, this is going to heat up soon I just love when the Brothers pop in and out of the book.
I love seeing them, even if they only have a few words to say. I especially loved the touching scene at the end where each of the Brothers presented Tohr view spoiler [ with gifts to get him through Wellsie's Fade ceremony. Brought tears to my eyes.
I love these guys. So yes, Ward left us with some unfinished business, which is fine with me. She wrapped up the main storyline but left us with just enough to keep us hanging and eagerly anticipating the next installment, as we should be. You know, I've never been disappointed with any of the BDB books. Of course I have my favorites, but each story manages to move the series along in the direction Ms.
Ward wants to go, and I'm happy to give her free reign and to follow along. Lover Reborn was an immensely satisfying, steamy read, and did right by Tohr. Ward is such a skilled storyteller that I'm eager to immerse myself in her colorful world. Now, when's the next one due out? View all 77 comments. He prepared himself for an overwhelming desolation that he had been with another female. He was… ready for something, anything to cough up out of his chest—despair, anger, frustration.
All he got was the sense that what had just happened was the beginning, not an end. Watching Tohrment and his suffering, trying to let go of Wellsie It was sad and beautiful at the sa "He waited for his conscience to start screaming.
It was sad and beautiful at the same time, because of what he found with No'One. It was a slow romance, full of sadness, but I loved it all the same.
This one definitely goes to one of my favorites from this series! The story The only thing keeping Tohr alive is his obsession with avenging his wife's murder. He is focused only on killing lessers, and is getting weaker and weaker as the days go by, because he's stopped eating and feeding. Lassiter is the only one that can get to Tohr, and he's doing whatever he can to help him, because he's here on a mission to free Wellsie from the In Between.
After seeing how Tohr reacts to No'One, he gets a brilliant idea to get those two together :D It works, in a way, but at the cost of both Tohr's and No'One's feelings. They will have to get over their pasts, and make a new future for themselves Very slow in the romance part, and I prefer it that way, otherwise it wouldn't be believable.
It took Tohr a lot of time to find himself again, and that's great, as I said, totally believable : This book is really about letting go of the loved ones, and moving on with life, and it was done wonderfully, it was difficult and heartbreaking, so very sad, but beautiful in the end.
There was some action here, but not much. A couple of intense scenes, especially the ambush one. Of course, that isn't as easy as it sounds, because Tohr's suffering is too great, he loved her too much to let her go.
Lassiter doesn't really do compassion, he doesn't care about anyone, but he forms a friendship with Tohr, and by the end of it, he's willing to do whatever it takes to see Tohr and No'One have a happy end. What he did at the end of the book! John is overprotective of Xhex, and after she gets hurt, he basically forbids her to go out in the field. Well, I don't have to say anything more about how that turned out :DD Xhex is a trained killer, she can hold her own, but the Brotherhood stands by John on this one, so she leaves the mansion and goes back to her previous line of work with Trez.
It was really hard to see them unhappy, and I seriously didn't know how it could get better, but I'm glad how it all worked out, and how John realised he has to change his thinking when it comes to Xhex and her fighting with the Brotherhood.
The Band of Bastards - I still don't like them. They are just totally boring to me and I'd rather skip all the scenes with them -. Xcor is making some devious plans on overtaking the throne and killing Wrath. He too falls in love in this book. In fact, I don't think I liked any of the sex scenes from them since they first showed up. No thank you for me. Big no thank you. Assail - He's the new vampire drug lord. Have no idea if he'll be good or bad, but he's interesting.
Doesn't get on my nerves at all and I actually wanted to read scenes with him good sign!!! Layla - Well, she falls in love in this book too. I'd like to care, but I really don't. I shudder to think how I'll get through her book when the time comes. I hope there will be a LOT of side characters. A LOT!!! In fact, I could do with a novella. A very short one. Why torture us with a whole book?? Especially since the main guy is gonna be view spoiler [Xcor pukes. It took a lot of time for Qhuinn to figure things out, and I'm glad he did it here : There was a complication with Layla, that drove Qhuay apart even more.
He must never, ever know what beat within her heart for him. It would ruin everything. After she delivered the baby, she took Tohr's dagger and killed herself. That's how she ended up in the Sanctuary, looking after the Chosen, and redeeming herself in being a servant.
After coming down to the Brotherhood's mansion, she still continues to be a servant, even though it bothers everyone. She feels she owes a debt to Tohr and wants to repay him, so with Lassiter's little push, she agrees to feed him and make him strong again. That leads to both of them getting closer, and No'One falling in love, even though she knows it will never be requited. Closing her eyes, she allowed herself to fly far away from any worries or preoccupations, until she knew nothing but the sensations in her body.
Indeed, as she fed him, she was fed herself, a part of her innermost soul nourished for the first time.
Bit by bit we see her changing, from the totally hooded, robed person, to her becoming Autumn, free to show herself, and enjoying life, and being with Tohr. I liked her very much, and most of the time I felt sorry for her cause Tohr acted like a jerk to her : She knew he still loved Wellsie, but she wanted to help him get better, and be with him in any way she could.
When Xhex took her in, that scene was great, I was glad to see them getting closer. My heart went out to her and I couldn't believe Thor acted that way.
The ending, when everything was revealed, it was terrible! Every inch of you. We clear? All of you. He is focused only on fighting and avenging his dead, and soon it takes his tool on his body, because he hasn't fed from anyone in a long time. When No'One offers, he knows it's safe, because she could never feel anything for him, nor he for her.
As time goes on, they start to have a relationship, mostly because Tohr thinks he has to do it to let Wellsie go.
Eventually he fears he's betraying his wife for being with another woman, and he can't deal with having any feelings for No'One.
I like… Autumn. So I say… Autumn. So, so difficult to read : I can't begin to understand what it must be like, and I'm glad this book didn't make it a piece of cake for Tohr to get over it. I took months and months of them going from zero, to being in love at the end of the book.
Nothing was easy for them in any part of the book, and it made me love them even more So I am very happy with how it all turned out. Second, Tohr's behavior toward No'One was pretty much terrible. He was a total jerk in a lot of situations, I couldn't believe it, but there it was. The pool scene when he sees her floating. OMG, could he have been more of a jerk??? I think not! I wanted to kick him in the head!!!
The first feeding was awful. Just terrible, poor No'One. The sex between them I liked that, Tohr was nice about it, knowing what she went through, but after a time it got terrible too because he kept shutting her out of his life, feeling like he would cheat on Wellsie if he had sex with No'One. Shoot me now. No, shoot Tohr now! What a moron!
I couldn't believe what he did, and then later, what he said to her : He is just lucky she forgave him, very damn lucky! But even with all the jerkish things he did, that ending was so heartbreaking, I couldn't not forgive him! I cried like a baby : To have him suffer so much : Terrible. I have an idea. I want to keep you safe—so how about you stop fighting. How about the rest of you fools? Come on, back my ass up. It just happened. He stomped his boot, creating a thunderous noise, and pointed… directly at Tohr.
With a groan, he shoved his palms into the shimmering silver pool of blood beneath him, and flopped over like the side of beef he was. Not sure, not fine, not dandy. That kind of suffering was a canyon, a purgatory of its own for someone who had not died.
And damned if the angel had any clue how to drag the Brother out of it. Frankly, he was having enough trouble just playing witness. To bow at Qhuinn. Others joined in, until the entire assembly, from Phury and Cormia, to Z and Bella and baby Nalla, to Fritz and his staff… to Vishous and Payne and their mates, to Butch and Marissa and Rehv and Ehlena… were clapping for him with tears unshed in their eyes.

It had me crying. Can't wait for Quinn and Blay book. It's about time!!!!!! I know one thing John and Xhexania sure did have some very intensive sex. They both out did Thor and Autumn. He's mine! To say that this was good is an understatement. To say that it knocked me on my ass and left me a drained, emotional wreck, is far closer to the truth. As much as I was anticipating this book it was also with a heavy dose of apprehension; was I ready to see Tohrment find love again? Was he ready? Were any of us really ready to let Wellsie go? And most importantly could Ward make me believe in this new love?
And it was over that year and all the shit that goes down and oh does the shit ever go down that Ward made me believe. And so it begins. These two have a long history together and are both equally broken so it makes sense for them to get together.
Lassiter is helping to move them along on the love train in his own way and as it turns out with a sense of urgency.
John and Xhex also play key roles in their story, giving us some absolutely filthy-hot love scenes as well as showing us a marriage in transition. Xcor and his Band Of Bastards are back and gaining strength in Caldwell. They do things here that… can never be forgiven. Sending one Brother on a mission under a decree of death.
New and mysterious characters are introduced Assail while others are fleshed out Throe and Zyphor. We also bare witness to a battle that gave me heart palpitations for all of its 60 pages and left some Brothers with life threatening injuries. Somehow through all this Ward also manages to give us time with each and every member of the Brotherhood mansion. We get to see everyone doing their thing, giving us some special moment with each of them and that in itself says something because there are so many characters now.
And I have to compliment Ward on toning down the product placement and Wardisms. This book just flowed beautifully. In fact I would have to say that Ward has hit her pinnacle with Lover Reborn. The balance here is just right; the romance, the action, the surprises and the healing. And now for the good news Blay and Qhuinn have been officially announced as book 11!
Way to go boys. See you Spring "Thats right, buddy. View all 58 comments. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. May 17th Qhuay! Tohr who? And I dont know what to say really. I should be happy, I should be freaking out, crazy excited, all over the place, considering that last Qhuay scene.. But I'm not.. I'm so fucking not happy right now.. Not even if she somehow died and the kid got raised by Qhuinn and Blay..
I do NOT want this baby.. The thing is.. Everything in this book points to a child, and if that happens..? So what did I think.. I think I should just focus on the things I did like, and then let out all my Qhuayla frustration elsewhere.. And holy fuck, that was a big ass surprise for me. So it surprised the hell out of me when she actually made me tear up..
This happened a long time ago, long before Tohr was mated off to Wellsie. With Tohr and with Xhex too. I was surprised at how tough she was and how she could talk back to Tohr when he was being an ass, because holy flipping hell, Tohr acted like an ass!
I mean, if I had the opportunity to bitch-slap one person in that book, I almost want to pick Tohr over Layla.. Ok, no… I want to bitch-slap Layla… Pretty please?! Why, WHY does he have to sleep with Layla? Arghhh… Pheewww The thing that bothers me the most is the; Why? Why do they need to do this? Why else have them screw each other? There is no freaking point!! Am I too invested in Qhuinn and Blay? And I feel very, very strongly about these 2 boys, and if she does this..
Over all, I liked this book.. View all 70 comments. Mar 18, P rated it really liked it Shelves: paranormal-romance. And people were precious, each and every one, no matter how many you were lucky enough to have in your life. And love Worth living for, too.
Tohr has to move on and leave his past behind if he want his shellin to rest in peace, it's not easy when she is the only thing he can hold on to even he passed the storms, it still hurts like hell for him. I didn't expected too much about this book. The story was not my cuppa, yet it was engaging and sad at the same time.
I loved No'One, her personality was precarious because what she has been through is unbearable for me. I knew you were the father! I almost cried for Tohr and No'One; they loses in their own ways and wants to fight for someone they love. The book itself is capable of wrenching my gut, but actually I don't like when Tohr and No'One choose to avoid each other, it frustrated me so much.
Every detail made me interested and wanted to continue until the last page. I hated and loved Tohr. I want to hold him close and tell him that everything is okay, at least for now. I have so much to say! Again and again. Every year, I look forward to a new book in this series, and rightfully so. I believed the culmination of my love for this series would be Lover Mine, since John Matthew and Xhex are two of my favorite characters. While that book will always have a special place in my heart, I am happy to say that I still believe this series has more to offer me with every book.
So many expectations! I am happy to say I believe that Ward has stayed true to who she is as a writer with this book. Tohrment always seemed like the most grounded, stable, mature member of the Brotherhood. When this series began, he was a family man, happily mated to Wellesandra. He was the voice of reason in the Brotherhood, and many looked to him for advice, leadership, and moderation. All that disappeared in a single act of violence, one that tore his beloved shellan and their unborn son away from Tohr, leaving a broken wreck of a male behind.
The opinions are varied. Many feel that it was too soon for Tohr to find another mate. Some believe he never should be mated again. Some want Wellsie to come back. I feel that this would be way too fairy tale a resolution for this quite dark series.
If I died, I would want my husband to be happy in this life. I believe Wellsie definitely felt the same way. Yet, over time, you feel those horrible claws of loss easing their way out of your soul and psyche, and you feel the healing begin. I for one feel that Ms. There is no question whatsoever that Tohr loved Wellsie. But I loved the message that part of loving her was letting her go, and allowing her to go to her eternal resting place, and moving on and living his life.
It felt right to me how the storyline showed that Tohr was actually keeping Wellsie from going to the Fade by his horrible, wrenching, unchanging grief. Although this is fiction, I do believe in the message about healing from grief being so integral to the process.
And that felt so real to me. That makes a very hard path to walk for a writer. It was naturalistic to the story, and I was satisfied with the outcome. In Lover Mine, I learned enough about her to think that there could be a foundation between her and Tohr. He nursed and cared for her through her pregnancy, and he buried her when she killed herself, with his dagger. From a spiritual perspective, an unbreakable bond formed between them that is pivotal to the healing that is necessary for both.
So it made sense for them to come together for me. He is truly mean to her a couple of times in this book, and I wanted to slap him upside the head. It was painful to see how she hurt herself emotionally, how she denied her right to happiness, but that too was realistic.
We feel that we have to claim that misfortune and assume that we deserved it. There was balance in that. Other than his two freakouts, which were pretty nasty, I think he treated her well. I loved how he gave her a new name that he felt was worthy of her because she refused to go by her name when she was a young member of the Glymera. Autumn is a very fitting name, and I loved it. I liked how it tied into the cover so well. And it also ties into the whole storyline.
People think of Autumn as the harbinger to the darkest part of the year. Autumn is a time of transition. It's the same thing that Ward did in book 9, which I also didn't like.
I like hearing about past couples, but not to the degree where they take over the book. The only reason that I'm not giving this book a 1 star, is because of Xcor. I loved the parts about him!
I didn't want it to end. The only reason that I actually got through the book was to hear more about him. My favorite part in the whole book is when he's hurt and he locks eyes with the female. Then when they lock eyes again, months later.
More more more!!!! The whole Quinn story is pretty good. I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out. The only downside to that storyline, is that no conclusion came out of anything. Like when Quinn does the big thing that he says will get him in trouble, nothing else is said about it.
It's a HUGE part of his story, along with the female's, but it didn't go any further. I know we need a cliffhanger, but it's more like Ward just forgot to mention anything about during the last few hours of the book. Loved Jim Frangione! The editing of the audio could have been better, but I'm use to it. With all of the BDB books, the editing is lacking. Like all of you, I'll listen to the next book. If they get killed off or written out of the story, I'm done. What do you say about an author who knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat.
I read all pages in one day, and then I had to get the audiobook so I could listen to Jim Frangione tell the story like no one else could. Unlike the other books in this series, you don't know what the outcome will be. There are so many twists and turns that everything you thought about the vampire couples is turned upside down. The book was so good that I had to go to the first book and read them all. There has always been a flow that I could count on. The inevitable was almost predictable.
Not true with Lover Reborn. I spent the entire time I was reading on the verge of tears, tears of happiness and tears of sorrow. Ward has created characters that become real. They are strong, yet vulnerable. You get invested in their flaws, tragedies, and happiness.
Even the bad guys are not really the bad guys, just different, with different points of view. Don't get me wrong, I hope that Wrath and his men always win in the end, but I had to take a step back and consider Xcor and his men's feelings.
This did not happen before. The Lessening Society was always wrong, always bad, and I always wanted them to lose the fight. Please don't make this book your first taste of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Start from Dark Lover and work your way through the series. You won't be sorry, and everything will make more sense. This is how a book should be written AND narrated - perfect in every way. Brilliant, this was definitely the best yet - if you have missed this series then get downloading - you won't be sorry.
Curve ball after curve ball is thrown into the storyline. I'm sad that I've finished it - but I can finally get my life back because I couldn't stop listening to it but, if you happen to read this JRW, then just give me a couple of weeks to get my housework done - then I'm all yours again and ready for the next installment.
Worth a credit? Oh yea - don't tell Audible but I'd spend 2, 3 or 4 yea I'm that sad!! I've followed the brotherhood for a while now, and I've been a devoted fan. I know many reading this will be fans, and I respect that. Aside from the obvious incongruity of warriors who are hundreds of years old talking like 17 year old street thugs, I've enjoyed the series. The trouble is, the last 5 books with one exception have been disappointments for me.
This book, I'm afraid, put the nail in my BDB coffin. Without providing spoilers, it's hard to voice my complaints about this book, but I'll try. The romance is weak, and in the end, just didn't work for me. I considered Tohr's treatment of No'one for at least the first half of their relationship to be disrespectful at best and emotionally abusive at worst.
The second half of their relationship only improved marginally until the very end. This fact was disturbing, but the fact that the rest of the brothers and household, including No'one's son in law and her daughter knew what was going on and no one bothered to even mention it, much less intervene, is massively disappointing.
JR Ward, as is her usual style, carries on several story lines in this book, but none of them seem to advance the plot much. They do open up some interesting possibilities for future books, but that's about it. I've been debating whether or not I'll keep reading this series, but I think this will be the last one for me. I think I'll leave the in between now and step on into the fade. I have two main gripes.
